2020 was a year of transitioning; a year of learning how technology could help us to stay as close to normal as possible. 2021 was the year in which we mastered technology and everything we use it for today, such as online school and digital marketing. The speed in which technology became absolutely essential is astonishing; most of what we want or need, we can find and order on the internet. So what did 2021 look like in terms of digital marketing? In the next paragraphs, we will discuss some statistics that could be important to your business and how you market to your audience in the future.

Social Media

It’s no secret that social media is a vast part of our lives and our businesses. As a social media manager and an avid user, I can tell you that it’s downright essential to use social media as a marketing tool. For businesses whose audience consists of the younger generations (Founders, Millennials, and even Gen Xers), social media can be a great way to grab attention and direct people to your services and website. If you’re not using a social platform to market your business, here are some statistics that might convince you otherwise.

  • “69% of Americans use Facebook, (Statista, 2021),” and, “it is believed by marketers to be the most popular social media platform across all age groups, (Hubspot Blog Research, 2021)”.
  • “Instagram currently has 500+ million active users daily, (Instagram, 2021),” and, “users spend an average of 10 hours a month on [the platform], (Hootsuite, 2021).” I for one can personally confirm this one!
  • “In the list of the world’s most visited websites, Twitter ranks #12, (SEMrush, 2021),” and, “82% of Business to Business (B2B) content marketers leveraged Twitter for organic marketing in 2021, (Content Marketing Institute, 2021).”
To add to that last fact, organic marketing, marketing achieved through posting without any paid promoting, is a tough thing to achieve. Using twitter to post your content and then echoing that content onto other social media platforms could be beneficial in developing organic media.

Content Marketing

Content marketing involves a variety of strategies to share information about your brand and what you do. This could include starting a blog, creating infographics, or recording a podcast. Check out these numbers on content marketing strategies.

  • “70% of marketers are actively investing in content marketing, (HubSpot, 2020).”
  • Media forms most used in 2021 strategies are as follows (greatest to least used): Videos, blogs, infographics, case studies, interviews, and eBooks (Hubspot, 2022).
  • “48% of companies that have a content marketing strategy leverage blogging, (HubSpot Blog Research, 2021).”
  • “Video will be the top investment for B2B brands in 2022, (Content Marketing Institute, 2021).”

Email Marketing

Email marketing is a large part of our own content strategy here at Ad Design.
